چکیده

An aerostatic spherical bearing has been developed for parallel kinematic machines. The design is based on a ball and socket configuration and is preloaded by permanent magnets arranged about the socket. High pressure air is injected through three orifices into the cavity between the ball and socket to produce a low friction, high accuracy interface. Joint accuracy is measured using a coordinate measurement machine and found to be 16μm throughout the joint working range; this can be reduced to 11μm through calibration of the joint error parameters. The flow properties are modeled using a Navier-Stokes flat-plate approximation and agree with measurements to 10% within the joint operating range.

Numerical Study on the Static Characteristics of Novel Aerostatic Thrust Bearings Possessing Elastomer Capillary Restrictor and Bearing Surface

In this paper a novel design of aerostatic thrust bearing is proposed and is analyzed numerically. The capillary restrictor and bearing disk are made of elastomer like silicone and PU. The viscoelasticity of elastomer helps the capillary expand for more air flux and at the same time, allows conicity of the bearing surface to form when the air pressure is enhanced. Therefore the bearing has the ...

High capacity aerodynamic air bearing (HCAB) for laser scanning applications

A high capacity aerodynamic air bearing (HCAB) has been developed for the laser scanning market. The need for increasing accuracies in the prepress and print plate-making market is causing a shift from ball bearing to air bearing scanners. Aerostatic air bearings are a good option to meet this demand for better performance however, these bearings tend to be expensive and require an additional a...

Performance analysis of Pareto optimal bearings subject to surface error variations

A Pareto optimization study was carried out on a flat pad aerostatic bearing design. Some of the Pareto optimal configurations were then subjected to surface profiling errors including tilt, concavity, convexity and waviness and key performance parameters such as load capacity, stiffness and flow rate determined. From these studies it was concluded that multi-orifice aerostatic flat pad bearing...

Frictional Characteristics of a Small Aerostatic Linear Bearing

Frictional characteristics of a small aerostatic linear bearing are accurately evaluated by means of a method, in which the force acting on the moving part of the bearing is measured as the inertial force. An optical interferometer is newly developed to measure the Doppler shift frequency of the laser light reflected on the small moving part. From the measured time-varying Doppler shift frequen...

A Study on Characteristics and Geometric Parameters of the Flat Porous Aerostatic Bearing

A CFD software was employed to analyze the characteristics of the flat round porous aerostatic bearings. The effects of gap between the bearing and the guide way and the porosity of the porous material on the load capacity of the bearing were studied. The adequacy of the simulation model and the approach was verified. From the parametric study, it is found that the depth of the flow path does n...
